Pin Trading

What is pin trading?

Pin trading is a cherished tradition at the Theatre on Ice Nationals, where skaters exchange custom-designed pins representing their teams. Each competitor receives an official event pin, and many teams create unique pins to trade with others. This practice fosters camaraderie and allows participants to collect mementos from the event.

Why is it important?

Beyond being a fun activity, pin trading serves as a means for skaters to connect, share experiences, and build friendships across different teams and regions. It enhances the sense of community within TOI and provides lasting memories for participants.

How to participate

Mid-season, skaters will have a chance to preview and order custom Virginia Ice Theatre pins. At Nationals, pin trading happens at a fun pin trading event and informally throughout the week—at the arena, hotel, or anytime skaters meet. It’s a great way to connect with others and show team spirit.

Benefits of pin trading

Pin trading is more than just collecting—it’s a fun way for skaters to connect with others from across the country. It builds friendships, encourages team pride, and creates a sense of community throughout the event. Each pin becomes a keepsake that represents not only the team, but the memories and experiences shared at Nationals.

"I thought we bought plenty of pins, but I ended up buying more—twice! My daughter was having so much fun trading, I didn’t want her to miss a single opportunity to talk and trade with other skaters."
