Ages

What aged skaters are appropriate for this program?

All ages are welcome, provided the skater can pass their pre-preliminary skating skills test prior to the end of the calendar year. Past VIT Open Teams have had skaters from as young as age 6 up to age 67.

When

What time of the year does this program run?

The skating season runs from July through June each year, culminating in the National Theatre on Ice Competition the last week of June.

Where

Where are practices typically held?

Most practices are held at the Prince William Ice Center in Woodbridge, VA. Occasionally practices may be scheduled at The St. James or another local ice rink, pending ice availability.

Practices

When are practices and how often are they?

Practices are typically held once a week for 90 minutes on ice and 60 minutes off ice on Saturday afternoons / evenings.

Competitions

What competitions will the teams compete at?

All teams will attend the National Theatre on Ice Competition and all skaters are expected to attend.

Teams will also skate locally at the Cardinal Classic in early June, Blades of Spring in mid April, and the PWIC Holiday show in December.

Select teams may also travel to Vermont to compete at the Northeast Theatre on Ice Festival or to Michigan to compete at the Michigan Showcase.

Apparel

Are costumes provided or are they purchased separately?

Costumes for the long program are provided by VIT. CE Apparel, Team T-Shirts and Jackets are purchased by the member. The total for T-Shirts, Jackets and CE Apparel range between $250-$300.

Extra Costs

What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?

Beyond the aforementioned apparel costs, additional costs include costs for skates, practice skating attire, private or group lessons, test sessions, all travel costs to Nationals, all costs related to additional competitions outside of the local region and any pins for pin trading (~5 per pin).
